Feature Me Friday - The Soap Gallery

Todays Featured Artist is Louise Vargas/ The Soap Gallery

About the Artist
We are a very small family business started originally in 2009 in Seattle. We moved location and are now re-establishing ourselves in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I refer to myself as an artisan soap maker and have been making soap for over 13 years now. My daughter has taken interest in the business and she and I both make our other delicious skincare products such as scrubs, balms, serums and haircare.

Felted Soap- so cool :)

Q & A's

1. Do you make hot or cold processed soaps?
We make soap using both the hot processed and the cold processed method. Each have their distinct look that defines our product line.

2. How did you get in to soap making?
I  first started soap making after decades of searching for a solution to my chapped dry sensitive skin. A bookstore had in its window a book about natural soap making. My first thought was "I can MAKE soap???" - bought the book and discovered the lotion like feel only handmade soap can give you. I was hooked!

3. How long have you been making soaps?
As I've mentioned, soap making has been an addiction for over 13 years now.

4. What else do you make , if anything?

We are also known for our other skin care products now. Liquid soap, whipped cream soap, facial serums, balms, solid bubble bath, shampoo and conditioners, whipped butters, fizzies, melts, salt scrubs. A more recent sensitivity to commercial laundry detergent led me down a road into making our own laundry soap. This has become a hot item for us.

5. What are your plans for the future?

Our plans for the future involve increasing our manufacturing capacity, and we are looking for wholesale venues who are interested in carrying our product.

Handmade Soaps or BUST! will be closing

January 1st I will close down my bath and body facebook fan page and my etsy shop.( actually that is already inactive due to over due fees)
I just cant keep up with everyone else. I am on a small budget so I can't go out buying ingredients to make new items. Though I do love making soaps and scrubs.
Maybe I will have a monthly contest on here... Take some time and try new recipes. I also have a jewelry bizz and I am trying to get my Erin's Sweet Tooth- candy and chocolate shoppe -  bizz more attention... ( and sales =) )
there is also a Kids only sampler box I am busy with.
Special requests are always welcome.

New Soaps

I just made a mold to make my new Inspirational Soaps. the mold is 4 1/4" x 2 1/2". i had to make it because there was no way i was going to pay for the crazy shipping. and the molds i was looking at were too small. when all else fails, do it your self :)
my new molds are going to have inspirational quotes. the clear soap will be on top and the white soap will be on the bottom with the vellum quotes in the middle. i have 13 soap packs of 3. below are the quotes- as is. they are $6 for 3. hopefully i will have a bunch made soon. click here to go to my Etsy shop.

Vanilla & Rosemary Soap

i loved making this soap. Its made with vanilla sugar soap and rosemary. this is the first time i used the stove to make soap. i just added water to a small pan , let it come to a boil , added the rosemary...... after a few minutes, i drained the rosemary out and added the soap to the water.... let that boil and poured it in the mold. and it smells sooooo good!!! cant forget that.
its avaiable at http://ErinsCandyShoppe.etsy.com
